Fear the walking dead survival - Immersive installation

Designing interactive objects for the “Fear the Walking DeadTM Survival” multisensory experience in Las Vegas

TRIOTECH is a giant in the world of interactive entertainment. Their attractions can be found in over 60 countries across the globe and attract several million visitors every year. When creating Fear the Walking Dead Survival, a multisensory attraction inspired by the post-apocalyptic TV series, Triotech sought out our expertise in designing objects of all kinds to help make the experience convincing and immersive, and above all, terrifying for visitors.

The first environment we worked on is the scanner room, a place set up by the authorities where players undergo screening to find out whether they are carriers of the virus. Triotech mandated us to design these immense scanners and other military tech devices. From lighting to sound and the choice of colour, texture and materials, every detail of the objects helps to create a tense, anxiety-inducing atmosphere.

The second environment we created simulates an M35 military truck often used by the American army. Participants are invited to climb aboard to flee the scene, which has been infested by zombies.

Giant screens and multiple sensors surround the structure on both sides to simulate a shooting with the help of laser guns. The truck experience is meant to give players a sense of power over the situation while maintaining a tense and suspenseful atmosphere.

In this project, the main design challenge was to adapt the look of the lasers and conceal the sensors in order to maintain a realistic environment and experience.

Throughout the design and prototyping process, our workshop was a hub for the project. Many of the attraction’s final elements were even made and assembled on our premises
