UMA artifacts
Commemorative artifacts that stand the test of time
UMA is an innovative project stemming from Lune Rouge, an initiative by the visionary Guy Laliberté. UMA’s mission is very ambitious: to modernize funeral rites and our way of commemorating the lives of our loved ones through technology and cutting-edge artifacts that stand the test of time.
This project is the result of a close collaboration between Lune Rouge and three distinguished design studios. The foundations of the digital ecosystem and the range of artifacts were imagined by SEYMOURPOWELL, then TAKDesign continued with the design of physical objects. Alto Design perfected the user experience of the artifacts and refined their formal appearance, in preparation for production and marketing.

Nothing was left to chance. The movement, weight, touch, and sound of each manipulation were studied and refined to make the overall experience harmonious and soothing. Our interventions regarding material choices and process optimization have significantly reduced production costs without ever compromising the high-end and solemn status of the artifacts.
In addition to providing the final touch on most prominent artifacts, we also designed a range of complementary objects aimed at expanding the possibilities of interactions and aesthetic combinations.
